Used for personal growth, healing and blessing of new projects or ventures. It's also a good time to cleanse and consecrate new tools and objects you wish to use during rituals, ceremonies or an upcoming festival.
Between the new and full moon is a period of the Waxing moon. Used for attraction magic, inner love spells, protection for couples and healing energy for couples.
Used for banishing unwanted influences in your life. Creating protection magic and performing divination. Setting up plans and releasing old patterns or issues are all. Full Moon magic can be conjured during the three days prior to the rise of the Full Moon, the night of the Full Moon and during the three days after.
Between the full moon and the dark moon is the period of Waning moon. Used for banishing and rejecting those things that influence us in a negative way. Negative emotions, diseases, ailments, and bad habits can all be let go and special spells for clearing can be performed at this time.
The Dark Moon period occurs three days prior to the New Moon. This is the time when you can't see the moon in any phase. Typically, no magic is performed during this time. This is the time to give yourself a break, to turn to self and pamper or replenish your own energies. Vision quests and deep meditations are called for at this time, to focus on personal matters, questions and answers.
A Lunar eclipse occurs when the moon passes into the Earth's shadow. This type of eclipse does not occur every year. But when it does, it's a wonderful and magical night. When it does occur, it lasts for only a few hours, so you need to plan your rituals well in advance. This one night is perfect for all purposes. Simply plan your spells to coordinate with the passing shadow. When the moon is in full eclipse, treat those few moments as if the moon was in its Dark phase.
Moon Phases Invocation
This invokes the four major Moon Phases these are New Moon, the First Quarter. The Full Moon and the Last Quarter to enhance your personal power and control. Under direct moonlight, say the following, "New Moon My Awakening, First Quarter My Quest, Full Moon My Treasure, Last Quarter Body and Soul I will Rest."
Perform on the New Moon to tap into the Moon’s energy throughout the month. Light a candle on your altar near an image or talisman representing the moon. Place a mirror under the candle. Anoint the candle with Peaceful Home or Angel oil.
You will need: Floating Candles, a large bowl of water, a pen
If possible, perform this ritual under the moon. If you are performing this ritual in a group, form a circle around the bowl. If you are performing it alone, face North.
Take a few moments to slow your breathing and quiet your mind. Allow yourself to feel a direct relationship to the Moon, as a mover of the living waters of the Earth and within our own bodies. Each person writes what they're cleansing, or releasing on the floating candle. It's not important that the writing is visible, just that the intention is there. Light the candle, state out loud what you have written on it, and float it on the water. Allow yourself to feel the energy transfer of what you're cleansing/releasing to the candle. Keep the candle burning in the bowl as a symbol of the letting go process. The flame is a purifier, and symbolizes the sparks of inspiration as well. If you blow out your floating candle, and your bowl is in your home, relighting it will remind you of your commitment. Place inspiring pictures and totems around it that remind you of who you're becoming.
Powers of the Moon and Sun
Choose four candles, two yellow, to represent the sun, and two white, to represent the moon. Place them at the four corners of the circle you cast, and stand in the center where the corners intersect. As you light the first candle to the East say: I awaken you God of the Sun. As you light the second candle to the West say: I awaken you God of the Moon. As you light the third candle to the South say: Combine your energies at the corners and give your power to me and mine. As you light the fourth candle to the North say: Give me your strength to use this power wisely. When all the candles are lit, turn three times in the center bringing your eyes from flame to flame as you do so. When you have completed your third circle, blow all the candles out and give thanks to the Great Spirit. Repeat again the following two nights.
To be done during Full Moon and High Solstice Days. Anoint the candles with Angel or Holy oil. Place gold flake around the yellow candles, and silver flake around the white candles.
Wish Upon a Moon Ritual
Choose four white, silver, or light blue candles. Place them at the four corners of the circle you cast. As you light the first candle to the East say: I awaken you rising God of the Moon. As you light the second candle to the West say: I awaken you setting God of the Moon. As you light the third candle to the South say: Combine your energy at the corners and give your power to me and mine. As you light the fourth candle to the North say: God of the Moon, use your strength to manifest my wish. When all the candles are lit, circle them three times with a crystal of your choice, speaking your wish. When you have completed your third circle, blow all the candles out with one breath and give thanks to the Great Moon Spirit.
This works best over the full moon. Anoint candles with Angel oil and burn incense. Save your candles and place them upon your altar for a full cycle of the moon.
New Moon Ritual
Begin by casting Your Circle. Facing North, hold your arms straight down to the earth and say,
"Great Guardians of the North, holder of the element of earth, join here in this circle for the observance of the crux of the dark to the new moon. Be the keeper of this, the first quarter of my circle on this night! You are welcomed with open arms, open mind, and an open heart."
Slowly make your way to the West. Facing West, embrace yourself with your arms warmly and say,
"Great Guardians of the West, holder of the element of water, join here in this circle for the observance of the crux of the dark to the new moon. Be the keeper of this, the second quarter of our circle on this night! You are welcomed with open arms, open mind, and an open heart.”
Slowly make your way to the South. Facing South, raise your arms straight out to either side of you and say,
"Great Guardians of the South, holder of the element of fire, join in this circle for the observance of the crux of the dark to the new moon. Be the keeper of this, the third quarter of our circle on this night! You are welcomed with open arms, open mind, and an open heart."
Finally, slowly make your way to the East. Facing East, raise your arms straight above you and say,
"Great Guardians of the East, holder of the element of air, join us here in this circle for the observance of the crux of the dark to the new moon. Be the keeper of this, the final quarter of our circle on this night! You are welcomed with open arms, mind, and an open heart."
Stand directly in the center of the circle, arms raised high above your head, and say,
"Holy Keepers of Balance, holders of spirit, the point between all elements, join in this circle for the observance of the crux of the dark to the new moon. This is very much your time, where the lunar month is perfectly balanced between cycles. Teach us your mystical ways on this very holy night, and help us to further know our own spirituality, and the mysticism which surrounds us."
Before leaving the Circle, give thanks to Odin, and the Guardians, for all that you have and will receive.
New Moon New Life
At your altar, facing any direction and using a comfortable position, call upon the gods to join you.
"Holy God, father of our existence, we call upon you this night. This is the time you are making the very important transition from Sage, to Sun King! A transition needed to guide the world through each cycle of life. Show us your gifts so that we may fully learn from them. Teach us more about ourselves, by teaching us more about you. We thank you for your presence this holy night, and we ask you to stay as we observe this holy lunar festival. We greet you with open arms, an open mind, and an open heart. Welcome and Blessed be."
Take a minute to calm/think before you go on. Take a second to feel the presence of the God. When you are ready, call the Goddess, saying,
"Great Goddess, mother of all, we call upon you this night. This is the time you are making the very important transition from Crone to Maiden! A transition needed to guide the world through each cycle of life. Teach us more about ourselves, by teaching us more about you. We thank you for your presence on this very holy night and we ask you to stay, so that we may celebrate this, your holy festival. We greet you with open arms, an open mind, and an open heart. Welcome and Blessed Be."
When you are ready (take a minute) sit in the center of the circle. Contemplate the things in your life you wish to rid yourself of. Really concentrate about whether you should rid yourself of those things, and if perhaps there are other, more pressing concerns to rid yourself of. Focus on this deeply and draw a mental image of it. From this point, you can draw this image and burn it offering it to the gods to use and disperse among the universe, or find some other action to help yourself be rid of this. Often a physical action, representing a wanted result, makes the result that much easier to achieve. It is called sympathetic Magic.
This is the time of introspection, and of learning from both the Crone and the Maiden. Gather your thoughts, calm yourself into a near meditative state. Standing in front of your altar, slowly light a black and a white candle and say,
"Great Hecate, holy Innana be here with us now. Grant us your wisdom, and teach us your holiest of secrets, saved only for the dedicated. Show us your true will, and reveal to us your many faces. Show us the time of balance between dark and light, life and death. Please teach to us the secrets of the great balance between the cycles, and grant us the wisdom of your very being"
Extinguish all other candles from the circle, let alone the two candles. Holding your arms above you, first allow Hecate's presence to enter into your body slowly. DON'T rush this in any way! Feel her wisdom, feel the experience of death for renewal. Live the end of the
cycle through her. Slowly, and quietly at first begin to chant,
"Great Hecate, show us your being, grant us the way."
Until it builds up.
Next allow Innana's presence to enter into your body slowly. Feel her playfulness and the life she brings. Feel through her the transition into life slowly, and quietly at first begin to chant,
"Great Innana, show us your being, grant us the way."
Until it builds up.
Build it up until you are ready (by this point you should feel dazed!) but remember not to over
do it. When you are done, fall to the ground, place your hands there and allow the excess energy to run freely into the ground. Take some time, this is very important!
Take some time to focus on what you would like to begin in your life. Visualize it, work additional spell crafting for it, etc. Be sure that what you want is also what you need. Be sure to thank the Gods when asking for anything. This is also a great time to dedicate yourself to some new path, or new venture.
Remember to celebrate and take some time to commune with the Gods. When you are done, meditate on what you have experienced and learned. Allow the Crone and Maiden to guide you through this meditation.
When you are ready, come out of the meditative state (take as long as you need). Slowly raise yourself (you will be tired!), and light a few illuminating candles. Extinguish the black and white candles, saying,
"Hecate and Innana, I thank you for the wisdom you have bestowed, and we are forever grateful for your teachings. We hope to walk down this path with you again! Blessed Be."
Slowly open the circle again. You are done, and might want to take some "down time" recording what you can remember of the meditation, as well as any other feelings or teachings you gained from this night.
This should always be performed during the Waxing Moon. I fill the room with candles anointed with Holy and Karma oils. I place quartz crystals, amethyst, rose quartz, blue quartz, hematite and willow branches on my altar, and Jasmine or Dragon’s Blood incense.
Long Night Moon Control Spell
The Full Moon proceeding the Yule is known as the Long Night Moon and is significant in that it proceeds the Yule and its strength and closeness to the Earth are apparent in its size and the intensity of the Moonlight.
Place your altar so that it receives moonlight. It is okay if the moonlight is reflected by a mirror. Kneel in front of the moonlight and say, "Moonlight New Awaken My Strength, Moonlight Waxing Control I Seek, Moonlight Full My Energy at its Peak, Moonlight Waning under My Spell all are Meek. Odin, My All Father, on this Long Night Moon, I give thanks for your power and control, I ask your Blessing over all in my realm, keep and protect them from evil and harm, Blessed Be."
Once you have given thanks you may meditate over the things or people you wish greater control over until you feel you have concentrated upon them long enough.
Place as many images and talismans representing the moon as you like on your altar. Burn no more than one candle anointed with Master Oil. The moonlight should be the main light in the room.
